investigation

shocked to read the news about the high profile investigations into 2 key persons locally. personally, I know one of them and we were in the same unit more than 25 years ago. we hardly kept in contact through the years and the last time i met him was 2 years back. when you know a person for so long, it didn't feel good to read such news. I have known him to be such an upright system person. if indeed he is found guilty, it must be due to a moment of folly. well, for whatever right or wrong he had done/ alleged to have done, and whatever the outcome may be, he must be going through a very difficult period now. i decided to sms him and wish him well.

the thing about the system is that it is a very unforgiving one. it does not and will not tolerate any mistakes, regardless of how many years of good one has contributed. and when the system/ organization bears its weight upon you, it can be overwhelmingly choking. and i was reminded of how my own organization weighed itself on me and punished me for my sexuality in 2005. sighs.

i empathize with my friend. i really do. on a personal level, i certainly wish the system would be more forgiving. yet, i know that in the interest of public accountability, high standards of public service and transparency, that machinery must be respected.

i wish him strength, i wish him well.
