made another trip to melaka over the hari raya puasa aidil fitri holiday with schneider and damien. nothing fanciful, just to chill off and to take a break from singapore. and i must say my melaka trip this time round revolved around eating and shopping. nothing much. but i enjoyed it. the company was good. and we were all very relax.
frankly, when we started off thinking of going for a holiday, we toyed around with locations such as hong kong, taiwan, etc. but given the need to syncrhonize our schedules and manage our budget, we ended up with melaka (again!). then again, it seemed a natural choice as we all liked melaka quite a bit.
melaka is a very nice place. not too fast, not too slow... and apart from the cheaper ringgit, the proximity to singapore is certainly a very good plus factor. of cos, there are disadvantages of heading to somewhere close like melaka. for example, one cannot really get out of the `òut of singapore' mentality. for that matter, when in melaka, my `guesstimate' was that more than half of the guests in the hotel was singaporeans! and i even met my coursemates, and ex-student there!
really, if given a choice, i'd prefer to go somewhere far, somewhere cold, somewhere where i cannot be recognized. and where i can just totally totally blank off and be myself, or for that matter, be naughty! and better still, head off for a holiday alone. this way, there will be no pressure to conform, no pressure to consult your travel partner (where to eat, where to go, when to go, what to do and so on). and certainly when alone, i can choose to go anywhere i want - explore by myself, experience things without feeling constraint. having said this, i am also sure i will miss having people around me. having people to look out for me. having people to fuss about. heh heh. i sound so contradicting. well... i must be tired.
anyway, such places are hard to come by when one does not want to spend too much.

I was wondering what u meant by " be myself..., be naughty".
We also just returned from a short break (1 week - but effectively only 5 days since the rest was spent travelling).
Sardinia is a beautiful place, (some/many of)the italians are nice to look at... & some are quite "naughty" too
;)
hey! it's so good to hear from you again after such a loooooonnnnnnng absence!
and hmmm, i guess from you post itself, you already know what i meant by `be naughty'... heh!
:-)
Be assured that i do ocasionally dropped by. Yr post is a great relaxation for me. I just don't have zee energy to comment all the time. (work load is just getting horrendous - will be worse for the next 2-3 weeks as we are being evaluated, everyone on their toes now...)
BUT i will comment on being naughty with a "stupid" chorus line from a german transversite singer. It went:
"Ficky*, Ficky, Ouch-ahh, Ouch-ahh
Don't do it"
(*Fick is the the german word for... let's just say you substitute a vowel with a "u")
heh heh... ok, ok... you got the idea... and hey, best wishes for the evaluation ya.
:-)
