i have stopped celebrating valentines since 2006. and i've stopped doing so not becos i don't think it is a good thing. celebrating love will never be bad. rather, i have stopped celebrating it in the way most would expect couples to do - by going for good nice candlelight dinner and pretending that love only exist on 14 feb yearly.
the reason why i have stopped celebrating it this way on 14 feb is becos it is now too commercialised. most of the time, the food is mass-produced (certainly not the quality you would get on a normal day) and very very very very expensive. and i certainly suspect that most restaurant hope to be able to hide their lack of/ lower quality behind the reason for the day itself. they must be thinking "come on, even if it is no good, couple would definitely either not notice cos they are so focus on each other, or, even if they find it below usual standard, they would ignore it and talk about sweet nothings...". rite?
and so, i decided to get back to the fundamental - valentines is about love. and you can and should really celebrate love with everyone around you. friends, lovers, family, and so on... and if it is about your partner, you should celebrate love everyday. you should find quality time for each everyday and not just on 14 feb. and of cos, if you really want to celebrate love on 14 feb with your partner, you can do so in many other ways and not nec spent your money on expensive dinners... especially in such lousy economic times... and of cos, the focus of this day is not in how expensive the dinner is, it is about finding the time for both to commit to one another to spent quality time.
ok, will stop here... gonna prepare myself for a nice movie with bee later...
happy valentines everyone!
