now at work and had just received an email that made me rather unhappy. then again, i told myself to just cool it and ignore the issue.
you see, early last week, someone from another department asked my colleague to get him the course's students name, team names and a whole series of other data such as nric number, email address, etc etc to allow them to create a database for the course. he wanted this list organised by class. this colleague of mine conveniently sent the mail out to all the class form teachers. being a form teacher myself, i took the initiative to sent out a consolidated class list with almost all the details indicating that the college already had all the data and we only needed form teachers to nominate a class lead. the only detail that the form teachers would need to fill was the class student representative. and to ease administration, i indicated that we should continue to call the class by the class number as per what had already been given since the start of the course.
today, one of the form teacher forwarded a list using my template and this list indicated a new name for his class. apparently, he had forwarded my email to his class and asked them to fill in the details but deleted away my comments. out of courtesy, i replied him and inform him that we shall continue to call his class by the class number. and in reply, he wrote a long email telling me how we should not stifle student's creativity, how we should allow the new name to be registered... and even went on to tell me that by stopping them, we now appear unco-ordinated, unprofessional, etc etc etc. and to top it off, he copied his reply to all the form teachers.
i replied him telling him that i had emailed him on the class number issue earlier. and he meekly replied me (addressed to me only), "oops, i missed that mail"... no apology, no cc to all other form teachers etc.
sad. but could this be a case of all form teachers being too caught up with work? so much so that even simple admin like this can become a point of tension?
