during bee's visit, he commented that there were gay men everywhere we went, especially in the tianhe district. and i was like - ???. well, i must admit i was rather blind to gay men and that my gaydar was not working very well. almost all the men i saw around me were simply men! i couldn't sense any gayness in anyone at all! hahaha...
so after he left i downloaded a chinese gay app - the equivalent to jackd or grindr outside china. and since i was away from singapore, i decided to place my picture and my stats. and next thing i knew, i was bombarded almost non-stop with messages from people across china - gay chinese. wow wow wow! hahaha...
and one interesting observation i made was - there were many many who liked mature men! and guess what? they describe themselves as people who "喜欢大叔", or, in short, "喜大叔". loosely translated, it means "love uncles". i thought it was rather funny. they refer to mature men as "uncles". i supposed it is equivalent to "daddies" in the american context. but i played along when i realized the local reference to mature man was "uncle" and i introduced myself accordingly when asked. heh! when in rome, do what the romans do. and in this case, when in china, speak like a chinese (gay man). hahaha. and i am proud to say, i can text in chinese rather well now, after texting and replying these people who "喜大叔".
;-)
