Hegseth made a huge fool of himself (and by extension of his appointment/ position, his country) when he likened Trump to LKY - a highly revered founding prime minister of Singapore. My jaw literally dropped when I read about it and I can imagine the quiet gasps amongst the audiences when he said it.
Embarrassing. Totally embarrassing.
Was he drunk? It's interesting that this gaffe wasn't reported in the NY Times. In fact they reported that Hegseth's speech in Sg was well received and conciliatory to Asian allies.
ReplyDeleteTrump has in the past likened himself to Abraham Lincoln. Your example is not the first ludicrous comparison.
Well people in social media had suggested that perhaps he was high on drugs … hahhaah and there were also comments like - comparing the two characters is like comparing instant noodles with fine dining… and these were some of the more mild comments…
ReplyDeleteI also think US media tend to tiptoe quite a bit these days. So… to put things in perspective, and from my own understanding, there was quite a bit of push back by almost every participating countries - Asian and European - to Hegseth’s speech. For Asian countries, perhaps in more subtle ways as usual.
