this post will sound gross to some. and if you are irked by the topic of shit, don't read...
one of the things i learned after looking after my elderly mum was that i should always look at the colour and consistency of her shit after she clears her bowels. these could be tell tale signs of any internal issues or the need to adjust diet. for example, black excreta meant possible bleeding in the alimentary canal and that could be a major cause of concern... and over time, i also started to observe my own shit...
and today, i felt a very bad tummy ache all of a sudden and had to rush to the toilet. and before i could take my position comfortably, everything just shot out. thankfully, it wasn't messy as i was almost in position. whew... but when i looked at the shit, i got worried. it was as black as black could be. and for that split moment, i got really worried. did i have some internal bleeding or... and then i remembered, i had a whole box of blueberries the night before...
whew! what a relief!
hahah...
hahaha...i have a similar memories. few years back, when i was a student nurse, i learned all form of stools, colour, characteristic, smell, etc...i remember i must scope all form of patients stools with spatula and described them... with my clinician.
ReplyDeletei remember i was in hostel. i pooped large amount of purple colour stools. i was in a hurry to school. damn, i thought i am going to die, maybe strike by cancer...i only recalled i had dragon fruits yesterday on my way to school. i felt relived instantly. phew. cannot forget that. gave me a heart attack moment.
Hi Jeffrey,

Your story brought an image of a flock of birds stuffing themselves on ripe berries and leaving an explosive trail of distress. Poor birds. I need to remember the feeling of empathy the next time I need to clean my car ;-)
Best wishes, Edwin
@steve, heh... sounded like my experience alright! that's the effect of eating fruits with high degree of dye (natural). I had similar experience with beet root juices and dragon fruits too.
